Hi, I'm Ron Campise. This is another story that I personally handled a crime scene from the Dying and Lalaland series. Although luckily this young woman didn't die. The title of this story is Double Fork You, Asshole. This young woman, very idealistic, she became a teacher. Went to the one of the best schools in the Midwest. She came to Los Angeles. She was going to use that education and she was going to help people, especially in the inner city neighborhoods, like uh as they call it here, the barrio. She even lived in one of these neighborhoods called El Sereno near her school. And she lived in an apartment house. And because she's from the Midwest, she's kind of oblivious to the way things are in Los Angeles. She didn't lock her door that night. And sure enough, someone came, we call it a tweaker, someone high on meth. They were looking for an apartment to rob. And so what they did is they were trying every door and they came to hers. And hers was unlocked. She woke up with a pain to the side of her head. This tweaker was sitting right next to her bed in a chair. And he was whacking her on the head with a stick, this repeatedly whacking her. And he told her, Wake up, sleeping beauty. I need your wallet and your credit cards. She gave it to him. She gave him everything. She got the wallet, credit cards out of her purse. He kept whacking her on the side of the head. He then put out a little knife, a little pen knife, and began stabbing her in the chest. She ran out of that room in a panic. She ran out. The guy followed her. He kept stabbing her in the back with this little pen knife. She could feel this searing pain taking place. And she ran up to her little kitchenette there, grabbed two forks, dirty forks out of her sink, and she began stabbing him back. He was stabbing her in the chest at that time, and she was stabbing him right back with these forks. And finally, even though he is oblivious to it, this tweaker guy, he started to feel some pain. And so what he did is he finally turned away and he was showing his back to her. Well she took these two forks and she stuck them as hard as she could in his back. She collapsed on the floor. She was so weak she had lost a lot of blood. He ran out of the apartment, purse, laptop, and two forks sticking out of his back. And to him, logically, this is what to do. He had the money, he'd uh had to get home. He didn't have a car, he went to the bus stop. He's gonna take the bus home. He didn't even realize that these forks were sticking in his upper back. He got on that bus, looked at the bus driver, and then he sat down. The bus driver, he didn't notice at first. But the people in the bus noticed. They saw this guy sit down, bloody t-shirt, two forks sticking out of his back, looked at each other, these people, and they got off that bus as fast as they could. They ran off that bus. The driver, he saw what was going on finally, looked to this guy with these forks sticking out of his back, and he was half asleep by that time. And what he did, he hit his emergency alarm. And he walked off that bus very deliberately and very quietly. He was waiting outside. Within 15 minutes, the police showed up. Two cars. Usually when two cars showed up, it's a supervisor and a patrol car. And they had shotguns drawn, they had pistols drawn. They went and they were holding this guy. They didn't know what the hell had happened and how he had forks sticking out of his back. This young woman, she could barely even move. She crawled there, her front door was partially open, and she was trying to ask for help. She was getting weaker and weaker, and then finally she just laid at her front door. She was sure she was gonna die. A neighbor came by with a little dog, walking the dog. The dog went in, saw her, started licking her face, and she woke up, and the man came in and saw her, and they called paramedics, ambulances, they called the police, everybody. The whole cavalry came. She went into the emergency room and they saved her. She had been stabbed over fifty times with this little knife. Literally a death by a thousand cuts. It could have been. And what happened? I went to the house on a follow-up two days later. Her parents were there. They had flown in. They were collecting whatever they could to fit in a suitcase, a big suitcase. And they said, She isn't staying in this city. They go, That's it. She's coming home. And later, with the detectives, I went on a follow-up. About it was about two weeks later. They usually try to use the same people. They try to use the same crime scene people. And I went to the hospital. She was sitting up in the hospital. Her face was unmarked. They had bandages all on her upper body, everywhere, and her hands and her arms because she is trying to defend herself during this attack. And you know to me, she looked kind of like an angel. She realized how lucky she was to get out of this attack and to live through it. This tweaker guy, this is one of the people, as far as I'm concerned, they can go straight to hell for what they did. And about her, if she didn't decide to defend herself after she gave him everything, she wouldn't have been here today.
